A 52-year-old ex-police officer died Sunday evening in unclear circumstances, in a residence in Saint-Georges, in Beauce. Another man in his 50s, considered a suspect, was arrested and could face criminal charges in connection with the death.
It was around 9:30 p.m. that the Sûreté du Québec police officers showed up at a residence on 187th Street.
On site, the agents discovered an inanimate body with serious injuries. The victim was pronounced dead on site.
According to information from Radio-Canada, the victim is Sylvio Champagne, originally from Saint-Georges. He was a former police officer with the Montreal City Police Department.
A man who was also at the scene was arrested and transported to a hospital to have his condition assessed. He will remain detained, therefore under surveillance, in the hospital.
Investigators from the Sûreté du Québec went to the scene Monday morning.
The man is considered a suspect by the police. When his condition allows it, he will be met by agents from the SQ's crimes against person unit. The suspect could be charged with murder in this case.
