On the private side, she shared the life of Johnny Hallyday for several years. Married in 1965, they welcomed a son, David, born August 14, 1966. While it is a very happy event, they have also experienced tragic events, such as a terrible car accident in 1970. This tragedy has left a deep mark the life of the singer.

Invited by Nathalie Lévy in En aparté on Canal+, this Monday, January 6, Sylvie Vartan returned to this accident. She explained in particular why she had taken refuge in the United States: “It was necessary to avoid being harassed, to have a certain peace of mind. But I must also say that I am extremely lucky. Indeed, it was the second car accident in two years, it was a lot. And then this year 70 was a dark year, I lost my dad, it was a horrible year. I needed to get away”, she said.
The artist took the opportunity to distance herself from the many rumors about her state of health. “The media have always exaggerated by saying that I was disfigured”, she regretted. And to continue: “I was injured quite seriously but not as much as the first time when, unfortunately, I lost someone dear. The second time, it was a drama again and I told myself that it was over, but at the same time I was alive.”
Two years earlier, she had already experienced a traumatic event. In fact, she had her first car accident in 1968 when she was with her friend Mercedes. The young woman, aged 23 at the time, did not survived the tragedy. “Mercédès died as soon as she arrived at the hospital. It was as if the crazy car had just hit her again. Sylvie was wounded deep inside”, brothers Christian and Eric Cazalo had declared in the official biography Sylvie Vartan, the whirlwind of a life, published in 2021.
