Every new year brings its share of changes. As the universal charger becomes a reality at the end of the year, a bonus-malus will apply to smartphones from January 1st and people are already complaining about restrictions related to meal vouchers, there will also be changes for motorists.
As new measures are expected to come into force and encourage drivers to ease off, what other changes are expected on the roads ? Count on us to enlighten you.
What changes for technical inspections in 2025 ?
You know the technical inspection well. This mandatory “examination” for cars and two-wheelers must be done every two years to ensure that the vehicle is in good condition to take to the road and that it complies with the standards in force.
Good news: in 2025, the technical inspection should not change or be tightened. Rumors about new regulations against fraud related to pollutant emissions remain, for the moment, rumors. So much the better.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Speaking of technical inspection, let's remember that motorcyclists have until December 31, 2024 to be in compliance. From January 1, 2025, technical inspection is mandatory for two-wheelers (motorcycles, scooters, tricycles) registered before 2017. There's no getting around it… Let's clarify that this does not apply to vintage motorcycles registered before 1960 and competition motorcycles. If your two-wheeler was registered later, you have a bit of a reprieve. But technical inspection will be mandatory in the coming years.
Tightening of the ecological penalty
The bad news concerns the ecological penalty. The government intends to tighten the screws from January 1, 2025. While the minimum threshold was 118 g/km for vehicles, it drops to 11 g/km. The amount remains unchanged: 50 euros. This is the maximum penalty that changes in 2025, going from 60,000 euros to 70,000 euros for models emitting 195 g/km.
This should continue since by 2027, the maximum penalty should reach 90,000 euros for the most polluting vehicles. A measure that should cool the ardor of some consumers.
If the ecological penalty will be toughened, the ecological bonus will no longer be as high. From this January 1, 2025, the government is lowering the ecological bonus to 3,000 euros. In addition, the conditions of attribution could well be reviewed, and be stricter.
