Technical inspection of two-wheelers: be careful, you have until December 31 to carry it out, after that it will be too late

Spread the love

As of January 1, 2025, the technical inspection of two-wheelers will be mandatory. Motorcyclists therefore have until December 31 to comply.

Defined by decree no. 2023-974 of October 23, 2023, the technical inspection for two-wheelers has been in force since April 15, 2024.

This inspection concerns all types of two-wheelers: motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, etc. and applies to category L vehicles, covering most motorized two-wheelers, explains Auto Plus.

Which vehicles are concerned ?

As of January 1, 2025, the technical inspection will be mandatory for all scooters, motorcycles, tricycles registered before 2017. Motorcyclists have until December 31 to carry it out.

However, the system does not concern vintage motorcycles registered before 1960 and competition motorcycles.

If your vehicle was registered between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019, its first inspection must be carried out in 2025.

If it was registered between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021, its first inspection must be carried out in 2026.

If it was registered after January 1, 2022, the first technical inspection must be carried out within 4 and a half to 5 years of its entry into circulation, according to the public service website.

Where to carry out this inspection ?

To carry out this inspection, you can use an online service to find a technical inspection center approved for the technical inspection of a category L vehicle and near your home you.

This check will be billed between €60 and €90 depending on the centers and regions. Failure to comply with this measure is punishable by a fine of 135 euros.

A boycott, really?

On November 25, the Fédération Française des Motards en Colère (FFMC) published a press release on its website, assuring that “nearly 80%” of bikers would boycott this technical inspection.

However, a majority seem to have changed their minds, as evidenced by the unprecedented influx of bikers into the technical inspection centers. In cities in the south of France such as Var, Toulon, Hyères and Fréjus, professionals in the sector are recording record attendance at the end of the year.
