On Tuesday, October 22, the Hoche district of Grenoble was marked by a new tragedy: gunfire cost the life of a teenager and injured a second.

Around 10pm on Tuesday evening, emergency services went to the Hoche district, a major drug trafficking hub in Grenoble. Once they arrived, they were able to see the extent of the damage: gunfire had caused the death of a 15-year-old boy and injured a 17-year-old boy.

The youngest, hit in the head, unfortunately did not survive his injuries. According to the deputy public prosecutor of Grenoble, François Touret de Coucy, the teenager was not unknown to the police: he had previously been found guilty of drug trafficking and receiving stolen goods from the unauthorized transfer of drugs. Under placement in the EPE of Corenc, in Isère, he was declared a runaway on October 22 at 5:45 p.m., according to the prosecutor's office. His judicial control prohibited him from appearing in the Carrare district of Echirolles and in the Hoche district, where the shooting took place.

According to the newspaper France 3 Régions, the second victim, hit in the thigh, was transported to the Grenoble-Alpes hospital. The city's deputy prosecutor said he was also known to the justice system: he had recently been the subject of a “declaration of guilt” for theft and possession of a category D weapon.

An attack carried out from a scooter

According to him, during the attack, the teenagers were targeted by two individuals who were traveling on a scooter. Positioned at the Place André Malraux, they did not hesitate to fire, half a dozen times, against the teenagers. They are said to have used at least one handgun, according to information from the Dauphiné Libéré. The account of the modus operandi suggests that the attack was prepared well in advance. The perpetrators having succeeded in flee, the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS) was called in to investigate.

This tragedy is another addition to the long list of episodes of gun violence linked to drug trafficking in the city of Grenoble. Since the beginning of the year, the metropolis has been victim of about twenty attacks, the level is such that the authorities go so far as to speak of a “gang war”.
