Teleworking: this surprising study shakes up many certainties

Teleworking was a appreciated lifeline in many companies at the very beginning of the covid pandemic. Little by little, however, we saw a step backwards, and many companies required their employees to return to work on site, sometimes even every day of the week.

If we are to believe the LinkedIn forecasts published for the year 2024, these leaders are on the wrong track and are even going against the tide of the job market. According to data from the professional social network, we are witnessing an increase in job offers for hybrid positions (part teleworking, the other in the office).

Teleworking, a boon for turnover ?

To cite only the example of the United Kingdom, half of the offers are listed as hybrids, reports Fortune, and this figure is constantly increasing. Moreover, only a third of the offers proposed this type of work organization in August 2022.

Quoted by our colleagues, Olivier Sabella, vice-president, EMEA and LATAM of LinkedIn Talent Solutions, comments as follows:

We will see this trend persist into 2024, as businesses continue to turn to hybrid options in order to balance employees' demand for increased flexibility with employers' desire for in-office presence.

Employers who balk at remote work could also be at risk. In any case, this is what emerges from an analysis carried out by the startup Scoop last year. Experts sifted through data from the Flex Index which compiles information such as a company's remote work policies and its revenue between 2020 and 2022.

The results are final. Indeed, companies that allow their employees to freely choose their workplace or are entirely remote have achieved revenue growth of 21%. Conversely, those who require their employees to come and spend certain days of the week in the office obtain growth of only 5%. There is therefore a difference of 16 points between these two types of organization.

This contrast can be explained by a tolerance which reflects a state of mind of trust towards the employees of these companies and a greater openness to innovation, which has a positive impact on turnover. In any case, today is certainly not the day to settle this debate on the impact of teleworking, but we can in any case see that the health crisis has made it possible to establish this mode of organization over time.
