Ten more people were able to leave the Gaza Strip, says Global Affairs

Global Affairs Canada says 10 more people with ties to Canada were able to cross the Gaza border into Egypt on Monday.

No other Canadians were on the published list of people allowed to cross the border. border on Monday, but not all Canadian citizens, permanent residents and their eligible family members on Friday's list were able to cross the border when it reopened on Sunday.

On Sunday, 234 Canadians, permanent residents and their eligible family members traveled from Gaza to Egypt as the crossing reopened after a two-day closure.

There were 266 names with ties to Canada on Friday's list of the General Authority for Crossings and Borders, which, in coordination with the Egyptian and Israeli governments, determines who is allowed to cross the Rafah border crossing.

Business Canada says it remains in contact with more than 250 Canadians, permanent residents and eligible family members in the war-torn territory.

 

The war, now in its sixth week, began on October 7 when Hamas militants stormed into Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking about 240 others hostage back to Gaza.

Israel responded with daily air and ground strikes, and health authorities Hamas-led forces say the number of casualties in the territory has exceeded 11,000.
