TF1+: 5 questions about the free streaming service that wants to make you forget Neflix

Rodolphe Belmer, general director of TF1, took advantage of an interview given to our colleagues from Figaroto say more about its new completely free platform TF1+. The audiovisual group hopes to carve out a place for itself in the world of streaming, in particular by eyeing the advertising market that Netflix and Disney+ are trying to take away from it. Here's everything you need to know about this new service.

1) When will TF1+ launch?

The streaming platform will debut on January 8, 2024 , and will gradually replace MyTF1. This date corresponds to the return of the Christmas school holidays in France.

2) How much will you have to pay?

As mentioned above, TF1+ will be free. But as nothing is ever free in life, TF1 is necessarily targeting the lucrative advertising market which is coveted by all the other streaming giants. The duration of these clips and their frequency are also unknown. This is anything but a detail, because too many advertisements could spoil the viewing experience.

3) Where will TF1+ be available?

Rodolphe Belmer himself clarified this information in this interview. TF1+ will be “distributed on Orange boxes, as well as SFR, Bouygues Telecom and on the majority of connected televisions. We will be available on connected TVs from Google, Samsung, LG, HiSense, Philips and Amazon Fire TV”.

4) What programs will be broadcast by TF1+?

The streaming service will include a catalog of 15,000 hours of content. The manager of TF1 cited the previous seasons of his shows Koh-Lanta and The Voice, but also 200 series and films. Life is more beautifulwill also be broadcast on the first channel and will take place on the platform. News segments are also planned with formats of 3 to 6 minutes to offer a summary of the day's information.

5) What technological innovations?

TF1 intends to make the big things with this new offering through several major innovations. The main one is undoubtedly Top Chrono, a tool which is capable of creating tailor-made meeting reports. Thus, it will be able to summarize a match of the French team according to the duration chosen by the spectator, promises Rodolphe Belmer.

TF1 also announces a recommendation algorithm which adapts to each user present in front television to guide them in their choice. We will of course have to judge on the evidence, but it does not lack ambition.
