It is well known that the media never talk about trains arriving on time. So much so that following the news can be totally depressing. Without denying the great threats and difficulties that cross our time, there is also very good news that sometimes reaches us and is not relayed enough. To ignore them is to condemn oneself to despair. Here are three recent news items that will make us smile again.

Australia sets an example in protecting the Ocean

The Australian government has decided to quadruple the size of its Antarctic Marine Park around Heard and McDonald Islands. In practical terms, this means that 52% of the country’s oceans are now protected. This is better than the stated target of 30% by 2030.

The islands are home to valuable glaciers and wetlands as well as Australia’s only active volcanoes. According to scientists, it is one of the places on Earth that is least disturbed by human activity.

2025 will mark a turning point in energy terms

According to an analysis by the International Energy Agency (IEA), electricity production from renewable sources will surpass that produced from coal in the world next year.

Experts point out that the demand for renewable energy in the transport sector will only increase over the next six years. Unfortunately, the IEA also notes that annual CO2 emissions from “industrial heat” have increased by 5% over the last six years.

Obesity peaks in the United States

For the first time in many years, obesity rates have declined in the United States. We may have reached a peak and are starting to decline. This trend is also linked to the increasing use of drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy, which reduce appetite and facilitate significant and lasting weight loss.

If this continues, the health benefits are considerable with an expected decrease in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. If these drugs are criticized, only the result counts and they seem destined to have a major impact on a global level. Provided, of course, that their access becomes democratized through a decrease in prices.

That's it for this week. If you liked this article, you can always reread the previous part of this section to find other good news that went relatively unnoticed.
