After a particularly rich 2024, which notably allowed Final Fantasy VII fans to appreciate Rebirth, but also to discover the fabulous Stellar Blade, to enjoy at the very end of the year a very (very) successful Indiana Jones, without forgetting of course the GOTY Astro Bot or the remake of a certain Silent Hill 2, the year 2025 should also allow gaming enthusiasts to spend a few great hours in front of their consoles and PCs. We take a look at the main video games coming in 2025.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

A few weeks ago, we talked about the end of 1994, marked by the launch of a certain Donkey Kong Country on Super Nintendo. For 30 years now, Nintendo's simian saga has held a special place in the hearts of many fans.

After bringing the Tropical Freeze episode to Switch, Nintendo will now offer players an HD version of the Returns episode, initially launched on a certain Nintendo Wii, at the end of 2010. In this episode, the Kong brothers must cross no less than nine worlds, with more than 80 levels, without forgetting to defeat various bosses to find their stock of bananas.

Note that the game offers improved graphics of course, but also all the content already present in the Nintendo 3DS adaptation. We can enjoy it in modern version (for a more comfortable playability) or in “old-school” mode for a hard-core experience. Release scheduled for January 16, exclusively on Nintendo Switch of course.

Elden Ring: Nightreign

Made official at the end of last year, this new opus is described as “an independent adventure“, which will take care of offering players a new gaming experience. In Nightreign, the objective will be to team up with 2 other players in order to face the night and the dangers it holds together.

A cooperative action and survival game, set in the much-loved world of Elden Ring. Teaming up in squads of three (the game will also be playable solo), players will have to survive a three-day cycle, making strategic choices between combat and exploration, to become strong enough to take down terrifying bosses at the end of every day.

A new return, this time focused on cooperation, to the Bastion of the Round Table in a universe parallel to the events of Elden Ring. Launch planned for 2025.

Ghost of Yotei

In 2020, Sony offered PS4 players a brand new license, with Ghost of Tsushima. Developed by Sucker Punch (Sly Raccoon, Infamous…), the game immersed players in feudal Japan during the Kamakura era, with the Mongol army led by Khotun Khan, the fictional cousin of Kublai Khan, landing on the beaches of the Japanese island of Tsushima against 80 samurai.

Set in 2025, Ghost of Yotei will take place 300 years after the events of the first game, this time taking players to the region Hokkaido, during the Edo period. The story takes place in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei (hence the name), an imposing peak in the heart of Ezo.

You will play as a samurai, namely Atsu, and the developers are obviously promising an ever more immersive experience, thanks to the power of the PS5. Release scheduled for sometime in 2025, exclusively on PlayStation (and a little later on PC).

Mafia: The Old Country

In 2016, the Mafia saga returned to the forefront with a much-maligned third installment, set in New Bordeaux in 1968. At the recent Game Awards 2024, 2K Games unveiled the first trailer for The Old Country, the brand new installment in this cult series, the first episode of which dates back to… to 2002. Still developed by Hangar 13, the game is presented as a prequel to the series.

Understand by this that the story will take place before the events that occurred in the other episodes, with a Mafia: The Old Country that will not take us to the United States this time, but to Sicily (Italy), at the very beginning of the 20th century. The opportunity to discover the origins of the Sicilian underworld before its exodus across the Atlantic, in the fictional city of San Celeste, through the character of Enzo Favara.

Release planned for the year 2025, on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

Metroid Prime 4

First announced in 2017, Metroid Prime 4 has had a complicated development for the month. In 2019, Nintendo confirmed that the game had not reached the usual quality standards required. So, the decision was made to start from scratch, with the teams at Retro Studios. In June 2024, the game was briefly presented during a Nintendo Direct.
