Lucasfilm has decided not to renew the series "The Acolyte" for a season 2. The episodes are available on Disney+.
The new golden age of Star Wars, it's definitely not for right away. The last series in the franchise, The Acolyte aired in the spring on Disney+, was finally canceled after only one season according to Deadline. This program, which told the story of the apogee of the Jedi order and the emergence of the dark side of the Force during the final hours of the High Republic, will therefore not be entitled to a season 2, despite the wish of its creator, Leslye Headlands.
The reasons for the cancellation of The Acolyte after only eight episodes were not released. If the series had obtained rather positive reviews from the press (78% on Rotten Tomatoes, 3.3/5 on Allociné), it had on the other hand much more divided the fans of the series, some accusing it of "wokism" and judging that it would not be sufficiently respectful of the legacy of the saga. The creator, Leslye Headlands, has always said she is a huge fan of Star Wars and its lore. Conversely, specialist critics saw it as a way of modernizing the saga that was losing momentum. On Allociné, the audience rating fell to 2.3/5.
As a result, specifies the American specialist magazine, the audiences were not there. Despite a strong launch, the series was unable to maintain its audience levels in the long term, to the point of becoming, according to estimates, “the lowest season finale of all Star Wars series”.
