The administrative court of Nîmes orders the RN mayor of Beaucaire to remove the nativity scene installed in the town hall

On December 20, the Human Rights League won its case before the administrative court of Nîmes, which was seized in summary proceedings. The mayor of Beaucaire must remove the Nativity scene installed in the town hall.

Referred to the Human Rights League in summary proceedings, the administrative court ordered on December 20 that the City of Beaucaire remove the Nativity scene installed in the town hall lobby.
“The interim relief judge in Nîmes considered that it was urgent to enforce the principles of secularism, neutrality and equality of citizens in access to public service”, notes Sophie Mazas, the lawyer for the LDH. “Thus the Beaucaire Nativity scene must be removed within 48 hours, subject to a penalty of €1,000 per day of delay. Far from being a minor right, the principle of secularism is at the heart of the cohesion of society,” insists the lawyer.

And to conclude: “the Human Rights League is pleased that the previous decision of the Council of State is respected by the administrative court of Nîmes.”
