The Ethics Commissioner of the National Assembly revealed in a report that constituency office employees and CAQ elected officials cross-reference data from the electoral list to tally votes, that is, to classify citizens according to their political sympathies, for electoral purposes.
In a press scrum, Liberal leader Marc Tanguay recalled that the constituency office is not the place to tally votes and that all citizens must be served, regardless of their beliefs.
He assured that the staff of the offices of Liberal MPs did not engage in this practice.
Similarly, MP Alejandra Zaga Mendez, of Québec solidaire (QS), said that the QS constituency offices do not do tallying.
According to her, the admissibility of a case should not be filtered based on the political sympathies of the citizen.
She asked the CAQ, which gives the instructions, to use the electoral data of citizens to do tallying.
