The City of Nîmes wants firm measures against drug trafficking, this “deadly trade”

At the request of the Minister of Justice, Richard Schieven, Deputy Mayor for Public Security, represented Jean-Paul Fournier in Paris, during a discussion at Place Vendôme, at the Ministry of Justice, on the themes of drug trafficking.

A word from the mayors

“Drug trafficking is a global phenomenon that affects the entire Republic, the municipality recalls in a press release. Nîmes, like all of France, is heavily impacted by the consequences of this illicit trade, particularly in its most working-class neighborhoods. While the Senate is currently studying a bill on the subjects, mayors from France were invited by the Minister of Justice to speak on the judicial aspect of the problem.”

Jean-Paul Fournier, through his deputy, thus wanted to pass “concrete proposals for firmness in this area”, considering that “this banditry has serious consequences in terms of security, with terrible homicides. The fruit of this deadly trade is closely linked to the withdrawal of certain neighborhoods, community and Islamist drifts, without forgetting clearly defined ramifications with terrorism”, supports the City of Nîmes.

Several ideas defended

Richard Schieven thus supported several ideas such as the “aggressive fight against drug users with an increase in the fixed fine of users of 1,500 euros or more”; “action against night grocery stores that can be relays for the sale of narcotics” or the “reform of the 1945 ordinance concerning minors linked to trafficking and the sanctioning of parents of minor traffickers”.
