Two magistrates from the Nîmes public prosecutor's office supervise investigations and direct procedures with the help of a clerk. Each year, the public prosecutor's office handles thousands of cases. An update with Cécile Gensac, the public prosecutor, and Nathalie Welté, deputy public prosecutor.

Every year, thousands of appeals and procedures are handled by the Nîmes public prosecutor's office. For example, 150 people are brought before a magistrate on duty each month. This often involves an urgent criminal response or even an immediate appearance before the criminal court. The office also directs procedures towards summonses at short notice or taking surveillance measures (such as judicial supervision pending trial) or can open a judicial investigation. This means that the public prosecutor's office entrusts the case to an investigating judge, which is particularly the case in criminal matters. The magistrates on duty, assisted by a clerk, handle the procedures by verifying the regularity and ensure the extensions of police custody of persons suspected in a case. The “perm” is similar to the control tower of criminal justice. This is where cases are centralized and processed by the office of the public prosecutor who decides on the judicial follow-up.
