Praised by critics and audiences, The Diplomat a year later, it landed a season 2, released online on October 31, 2024. In the first season of The Diplomat released in 2023, diplomat Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) finds herself propelled to the post of American ambassador to the United Kingdom, even though she has no appetite for the political game. Above all, an international crisis is playing out when she has just arrived: a British aircraft carrier has been attacked near the Iranian coast. Throughout the season, Kate Wyler must build alliances to assert herself in her position, prevent the situation from escalating with a war-mongering British Prime Minister, all the while uncovering the real culprit behind the attack. That's a lot for one season, and the first season finale turns out to be explosive. While the attack on the British aircraft carrier appears to be the work of Iran, then Russia (the attack was reportedly carried out by a certain Lenkov, leader of a group of Russian mercenaries), the finale reveals that the real instigator would be the British Prime Minister himself, Nicol Trowbridge! But no time to digest this revelation, since the final episode of season 1 ofThe Diplomat ends with an explosion. The lives of four key figures are threatened: the deputy British Merritt Grove, American embassy agent Ronnie Buckhurst (Jess Chanliau), deputy head of mission Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh) and Kate's husband Hal.
