The family of the little girl who disappeared in the Mistassibi River puts the City on notice

The family of the four-year-old girl who sank into the waters of the Mistassibi River a few days before Christmas sent a formal notice to the Town of Dolbeau-Mistassini.

The City received the formal notice on February 26. The parents are demanding compensation for the tragedy they experienced. The City did not want to reveal the amount requested by the applicants. She entrusted the matter to her insurer.

Contacted by Radio-Canada, the little girl's mother confirmed that& ;#x27;there has indeed been a formal notice and that the family intends to go further if the City does not respond favorably.

Mayor André Guy spoke with the family in mid-January. The twenty-minute meeting was very moving, according to the mayor. He refuses to say more about this matter due to ongoing legal proceedings.

The four-year-old and her mother were having fun sliding along the river, near the Chute des Pères motel, when the worst happened. The child is said to have crossed the fence which blocked access to the river before falling into the freezing and turbulent water. They were located on land belonging to the City. The tragedy had moved the entire population as the holidays approached.

Research had lasted several days.

The Municipality maintains that it has nothing to reproach itself for and that it was not negligent in this matter. The fence in question is inspected every year and was repaired the day after the events. No damage had been reported before the accident.

A search took place to find the body of the ;#x27;child, but in vain. According to the Sûreté du Québec, they should resume in the spring, but no date has been given for the moment.
