Around fifty young people from the 2nd Chance school and various local integration structures took part in the first forum theatre of the year at Espace Castel on Wednesday, January 8. Conceived by the association La Boîte à malice and selected as part of the national social system of City Contracts, this action, which is renewed every month, has been launched for several years.
Its aim is to consider differently and to move forward positively on the issue of discrimination with targeted audiences within the framework of the City Policy. “Forum theatre is live, social theatre. It is a practice that originated in Brazil but is now used regularly in companies, for example to address hierarchical relationships. We are in action and debate. It is direct, we address concrete situations and we provide solutions. In addition, the public identifies with the actors, it’s convincing”, explains Alexandre Pratlong, host of the Boîte à malice.

A broader field of reflection

While racism and homophobia have long been at the heart of the forum theatre programme, the action is now adapting to the new orientations of the City Contracts renamed “Engagements quartiers 2030”. The scope of reflections on discrimination is thus broadened to employment, ecology, secularism. And, this time, the theme focused on access to healthcare. “We first have a moment of discussion on the subject, then we play a conflict scene and finally we suggest thinking about possible resolutions before returning to the scenario to bring the solution found to life. In a way, we do mediation through theater”, describes Alexandre Pratlong.

The presence of the new CPTS health mediator

A special feature of this day was that the workshop was accompanied by Karine Boubekeur, who until now was responsible for the administrative management of the territorial professional health community (CPTS) of the Pays de Lunel and who is now the health mediator for the territory. This day gave her the opportunity to both introduce herself and also to develop, in front of the participants, some keys to facilitating access to care for all.
