This Saturday, January 4, in Geraardsbergen, Belgium, a 28-year-old man is between life and death after the roof of the house he was renovating fell on him.

The renovation work turned into a tragedy. Two men were seriously injured when a roof collapsed during renovation, according to Belgian media outlet HLN.

The house is cursed, believes a neighbor interviewed by our colleagues. A year and a half ago, the owner at the time did not survive a fall down the stairs.”

A man between life and death

The new owner had just acquired the property and had started renovation work. The accident happened when he tried – with another 28-year-old man who came to help him – to remove a support beam. The roof then collapsed and the two men were buried under the rubble.

While the owner was hospitalized and should soon be questioned by investigators, the 28-year-old man is between life and death.

“An investigation has been opened for unintentional assault and battery”, the prosecutor's office said. “A stability engineer has been appointed” in order to “secure the area”.
