While the PlayStation has just celebrated its thirtieth anniversary, the giant Sony is currently occupying the video game scene with its PS5… but is obviously preparing for its future. And while Microsoft has already revoked its Xbox as such, to move towards a video game as entertainment accessible on many devices, at Sony, it seems (for the moment anyway) that they want to remain faithful to the PlayStation console. While waiting to see what the future of video games has in store for us at Sony, the Japanese giant gave a demonstration at CES 2025 that was to say the least… odorante.
Indeed, the Japanese giant wanted to present its “Future Immersive Entertainment Concept”, which aims to demonstrate a possible future for more immersive games. No revolution overall, but rather the readaptation of various existing ideas, coupled with cutting-edge technology, for a purely narrative experience.

Concretely, the concept presented by Sony allows to reinforce the immersion by placing the players in a closed environment (a sort of cube), at the cutting edge of technology in terms of the video (with LED panels) as well as audio, to which will be added… smells. The demonstration is made from the game The Last of Us, and Sony promises an unprecedented immersion.
In addition, it is possible to handle physical tools that interact with the world on the screen. The demonstration notably shows a flashlight that only lights up what it is pointed at. This is not a VR experience (hello to the forgotten PS VR2!), but rather an immersive experience that involves physically entering the dedicated space, and that does not require any accessories other than your own senses.

As for video games, the real ones, the ones accessible directly from our living rooms, the news at Sony it's obviously the PS5 Pro, which allows you to benefit from more advanced experiences on many games… provided you're willing to pay the price.
Of course, this is just a concept, and no one knows what the end result of this Future Immersive Entertainment Concept will be for the general public. In the meantime, if you want to start immersing yourself in the atmosphere of The Last of Us series while waiting for its broadcast (next April), we strongly advise you to watch the brand new trailer directly at this address.
