Guillaume Canet has a lot of respect for the late actor Jean Rochefort.

IN BRIEF

  • Guillaume Canet, actor and director, returns to the cinema with “Le Déluge” on December 25, 2024 and “Ad Vitam” on Netflix on January 10, 2025.
  • He admits his inability to remain inactive, explaining that his mind is constantly on alert and that he feels a “bulimia” for creation.
  • Despite his hyperactivity, Canet recognizes the importance of health and his role as a father, emphasizing that he must find a balance.

Journalist Xavier de Moulins received Guillaume Canet in “At the heart of creation”,and had the opportunity to talk about his hyperactivity. The actor's news is quite dense since he returns to the big screen on December 25, 2024, in “The Flood”, but is also at the poster for the film “Ad Vitam”, which will be released on Netflix on January 10, 2025.

The former professional rider, who later turned to cinema, has no fewer than 55 films to his credit as an actor and 8 films as a director. The observation is there: Guillaume Canet never stops. It is at the microphone of Xavier de Moulins that he thus delivered about his hyperactivity.

Guillaume Canet “I don't know how to do anything”

The actor thus confessed about his way of functioning: “I don't know how to do anything. I don't know how to lie down on a deckchair. Every time I do it, I lie down and two minutes later, I say to myself 'I didn't do this, I didn't do that'. So I try to work on that. There is a part of my brain that is always on alert and that, when it experiences things, says to itself 'this moves me, 'that's interesting, 'that's beautiful', he first explained.

This passion, the actor wouldn't trade it for anything in the world : “This extraordinary feeling when you're in a movie theater and you're showing your film to an audience, it's something that totally thrills me. I think I have a kind of bulimia for that, a desire to constantly reproduce and relive these experiences. And so, to go as quickly as possible, as long as I can do it, as long as I have the chance to do it, I take advantage of it.”

Limits to his hyperactivity

The director of Little White Lies then explained more deeply : “There is also perhaps a fear that it will stop. There is this frenzy that comes from there, and then also to avoid thinking. I think that when I ask myself, there are all these existential questions that come back and that I have since my early childhood.”

He did, however, acknowledge that his hyperactivity had limits : “Now, I think that ça has limits. And I've seen it plenty of times, by the way. The limits are the hospital, it's health. And then, it's also the risk of becoming dry. Because it's important to live. It's important to share things. So, when we talk about this hyperactivity, there's something that I absolutely don't put aside, it's my role as a father. I'm a dad who's as present as possible. I need spend time with my children. Children, they educate you a lot. And they often have very accurate thoughts and reactions to life,” he explained.
