Ils s’appellent Yassine, Adel et Souada. Ce sont le dernier et les premiers bébés de l’année 2025 à la maternité de Bagnols-sur-Cèze.

In 24 hours, between December 31, 2024 and January 1, 2025, five babies were born at the Bagnols-sur-Cèze maternity ward. “It was very tight!” smiles one of the midwives in the department, where two midwives and two childcare assistants are present day and night. During the day, two ASH (hospital service agents) and a nursing assistant complete the team. Not to mention the on-call obstetrician, the pediatrician, the intern and the anesthesiologist who ensure that the deliveries go smoothly, which numbered nearly 660 in 2024.

To end the year, Yassine almost got born in his parents Fatima and Karim Amezian's car. The young couple from Bagnolais will remember this night of December 30 to 31, 2024, and not only for the arrival of their second child. “We were on the road coming back from my mother's house in Avignon. And that's when it started! We quickly came to the maternity hospital in Bagnols. Between the moment we arrived and the baby's arrival, 5 minutes passed!” the parents recount with smiles. “The due date was January 17” explains Fatima. The little boy, 46.5 cm and 2.760 kg at birth, was the last baby of the year 2024 to be born at the Bagnols maternity hospital, at 0:50 a.m. “He didn't want to be born in 2025!” jokes the dad.

“Midwives are trained in natural childbirth”

The first baby of 2025, Adel, is also a little boy, born at 8:08 a.m. on January 1st.“We chose to come to the Bagnols maternity hospital because it is renowned for physiological childbirth“, a natural birth that takes place with minimal medical intervention, explains Aurore Navarro, his mother. “This was not the case for my first, in another hospital”. Adel's parents did not hesitate to come from Brantes in Vaucluse, an hour and a half from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, so that the birth of their son would go as they wanted. “The team of midwives is trained in natural childbirth. I gave birth without an epidural, in the position I wanted” emphasizes the young woman. “Everything went very well!” for the 51 cm and 3.540 kg baby and the mother.

A little later, at 10 am, Souada, Aïcha Mahamat's eighth child, was born. “This is my second at the Bagnols hospital” smiles the mother. And the first girl born in this new year at the Bagnols maternity ward.
