The Confederation list is “young”, says Julien Delagnes, the union's co-spokesperson, since the average age is 47.1 years. 18 farmers are on the list and parity is 100% respected. “Our list is very diverse in terms of production and very spread out across the whole of Lozère”, he adds.

The main demands of the Confédération paysanne concern income and the installation of farmers, as well as support and regulation in the face of predation.

“Go back to a million”

Through this campaign, the man who is also a market gardener wants to highlight the union's historic slogan: “Many farmers for lively countrysides.” For several years, the number of farmers in France has continued to decrease.

Currently, there are 380,000 of them, and Julien Delagnes explains that he wants to “go back up to a million to stop the haemorrhage and reverse the trend. We must therefore install farmers, but to do this we must provide them with an income so that they can be sure of being able to live decently from their work.”

The Confédération paysanne also demands that France withdraw from all free trade agreements, particularly Mercosur, which “risks wreaking havoc, particularly in Lozère.”

Protecting herds

“We also believe that we must regulate wolves and protect herds. We must think of both. We want to make expansive and be able to keep the animals outside.” Employing labor would be “an opportunity to bring rural employment back into the countryside”, according to the head of the list.

Finally, Julien Delagnes wants, with his list, to bring back into fashion the idea of the nourishing function of the earth, and even “sacralize” this function. “The earth must produce food, not electricity. We oppose all new ground-based photovoltaic park projects.”
