A tramway line shapes a city and the most emblematic construction site will probably remain that of the Marc-Bloch square (formerly place de la Voie Domitienne) in front of the renovated Paul-Valéry university. At the start of route de Mende, it is one of the most advanced construction sites. It is also “the most impressive”, according to Julie Frêche. In particular due to the construction of a huge hydraulic retention basin at the corner of rue du Dr Pezet and route de Mende.

A 4,600 m² retention basin

“A construction site in the city centre, managed by the Razel-Bec company. It is a 4,600 m³ basin responsible for solving 90% of flooding problems linked to bad weather”, assures the elected official. Claire Rancoule estimates that the basin, now covered, suffered “two heavy rain events in 2022, when it was dug. Each time it had to be emptied and the sludge cleaned”.

First shelter at a standstill Université Paul-Valéry

A mishap, but the main thing is to have completely transformed the site. In particular, the former 2,000 m² car park has become a huge green space, redeveloped into a huge living space for students and local residents. It is on this forecourt, recently named in memory of this resistance professor who should enter the Pantheon, that the first shelter at the Université Paul Valéry stop will be installed. Probably during the end-of-year holidays. It will also be the first sector connected to the overhead contact line.
