It’s the big hit of the moment on Netflix. The Wages of Fear is the remake of the great classic of the seventh art by Henri-Georges Clouzot which won him the Palme d'Or at Cannes . Here are three things to know about this production that leaves no one indifferent.

Fred, a professional mercenary, is in dire need of money. Ready to do anything to get back on track, he accepts the difficult mission entrusted to him by Anne, security director of an oil company. For a million euros, his task is to put out the fire that is constantly consuming an oil well.

He only has 24 hours to detonate 200 pounds of nitroglycerin before it's too late. If it fails, a nearby refugee camp could be destroyed. It is therefore a real race against time that we will follow in this thriller, because we also have to recover the explosives in hostile terrain. Fred will have to put together a crack team to win the prize.

What is the cast of The Wages of Fear ?

The cast brings together some well-known figures from French cinema. We can notably cite Franck Gastambide (Validated) in the role of Franck. At his side, we find Ana Girardot (La Fièvre), Alban Lenoir (AKA), Sofiane Zermani (Les Sauvages), or even Bakary Diombera (Validated), Sarah Afchain (< em>November), and Alka Matewa (Braqueurs: The series).

A huge audience (and bad reviews)

According to data from the FlixPatrol site, The Salary of the Little< /em>r is the most viewed feature film in France on Netflix. And the same is true in many other countries including Spain, Austria, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Ukraine, and Portugal.

If the audience is there, the critical feedback is however quite negative. On AlloCiné, this production obtained a rating of 2.6 out of 5 from the press and 1.4 out of 5 from spectators. Same trend on the Rotten Tomatoes site where it only collects 40%.

Chase Hutchinson from Collider is, for example, not kind to Julien Leclercq's film and he asserts: “Where the original remains a work of art as entertaining as it is well done, this remake turns out to be nothing more than an empty and high-sounding approximation of’ #8217;an action film. Neither thrilling nor tense, it is simply stillborn”.
