The war of AI-boosted robots has begun: Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos want to win it

His initiative has clearly not gone unnoticed. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has just taken part in the fundraising of the Swiss startup Swiss-Mile, via his company Bezos Expeditions. Although the exact amount spent by the entrepreneur is unknown, this round of funding allows the Swiss company to recover 20 million dollars, which values it at 100 million dollars.

Jeff Bezos is increasing investments in robotics

Launched last year, it produces robots that rely on a machine learning model. This AI allows it to move in a much more convincing way than older models.

As detailed by our colleagues at Les Échos, Swiss-Mile offers two main products, a “robotic mule” and a “robotic watchdog,” which are intended for the surveillance and transportation sectors.

The startup promises: “Mobile robots have vast potential, but many of them lack the ability to efficiently navigate obstacles, travel long distances, and carry heavy loads”.

It adds:

Beyond limiting costs, these cutting-edge solutions make worker safety and well-being a priority by relieving them of monotonous tasks, while providing them with valuable operational information.

This investment by Jeff Bezos is obviously not the result of chance, but is based on a bet by the leader. The latter is indeed increasing investments in these robots that benefit from the latest advances in AI, recalls the economic media.

At the beginning of the year, he notably joined the capital of the American start-up FigureAI which develops humanoid robots. In March, he also placed his pawns in Perplexity AI, a search engine that also bets on the power of new language models.

Elon Musk's bet

In this rush towards AI-boosted robots, the founder of Amazon will cross paths with an old rival: Elon Musk. The latter has also steered his company Tesla towards an unexpected path. He is working on a humanoid robot called Optimus.

In June, the business leader was selling the dream during a discussion with shareholders:

He can be your companion, he can be at your house, he can in some way look after your children. He can teach, a great teacher. He can do factory stuff.
