Launched on October 31st on Netflix, The Zen Murders, is enjoying great popular success. This eight-episode German series can also be found in the top 10 of the French ranking of the specialized site FlixPatrol. The opportunity for us to present this original production in more detail.
What's it about ?
The story of the series is based on the novel Achtsam morden by Karsten Dusse. This book is a real bestseller, which probably convinced Netflix to adapt it. Some go so far as to compare the plot to Breaking Bad or Dexter, fairly flattering references that must not displease the production team.
We follow the character of Björn Diemel, a mafia lawyer who is trying to manage his mental health as best he can. To do this, he starts mindfulness classes that are supposed to help him better understand the dissonance between his professional and personal lives. But the opposite happens. The latter will indeed slide towards violence and discover a new, hard-hitting strategy: the murder of a crime lord!

That's actually a little late for my current professional environment. Granted, I killed about half a dozen people in the week that followed.”
And Netflix adds to whet our appetites : “Despite the tense situation, Björn always manages to keep his cool and completely reorganize his life. And the fact that a few murders are necessary along the way to solve his problems is just the natural consequence of his conscious change of life. “
Critics and the general public greatly appreciate this production of the streaming service. Some, like the site Decider, have also found that The Zen Murders leaves ” a strange discomfort “. And for good reason, this figure of the antihero who steals the show and the idea of finding ” peace through violence “ is not so common in television productions.
