The specialized site Stelvision explains that on January 16, the red planet will be in the best possible place to be able to contemplate it from France. It will be at a maximum height of 65 to 70 degrees above the horizon, enough to allow us to see it with very little disturbance from atmospheric turbulence.

It will even be possible to see some details on its surface, the site states. The last time such conditions were met was in 2018. Mars was then 57.7 million kilometers from Earth, but was much lower on the horizon. Conversely this year, it is further away – 96 million kilometers – but will be much higher in our sky. Then, we will have to wait until 2035 to have such favorable conditions.
