On PC, you have the Ctrl + Z shortcut to undo the last action and Ctrl + Y to redo it. When you’re writing an email, a document, or a social media post, these shortcuts are extremely useful because they allow you to go back to an action, or redo it, depending on your inspiration (instead of deleting and retyping). And the good news is that Google's Gboard keyboard, which comes pre-installed on Android smartphones, is about to get a similar feature.

As our colleagues at 9to5Google note, this feature has been in development since 2023. And now, it's available on the beta version of Gboard.

While waiting for its deployment, you'll need to sign up for the app's beta program to take advantage of this new feature before everyone else. In any case, once you have tested this new feature, it will be difficult to do without it, if you write a lot of texts on your smartphone.

A smartphone version of Ctrl + Z

Once you sign up for the Gboard beta program, and install the beta version of the app, you should have access to Google's new buttons.

  • To access the Undo button, open the button menu on the left

  • Then, all you have to do is press the new Cancel button to use it

  • You can also drag and drop this new button to the top of the keyboard, so it is more easily accessible

  • As for the Redo button, equivalent to Ctrl + Y, it appears automatically when you use the Undo button

It should be remembered, however, that, as the feature is in beta, it is still possible that This one has bugs. However, it is not yet known when the Undo and Redo buttons will be offered by Google on the stable version of its Gboard keyboard.

  • Google has developed an equivalent of the Windows shortcuts Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Y for the Android Gboard keyboard
  • The two new buttons allow you to undo the last actions, or redo them, while you write on your smartphone
  • But for now, you have to install the beta version of Gboard to take advantage of this new feature
