These bosses prefer to hire an AI rather than a young graduate!

Would you rather use AI for your business or hire a graduate?? This is the question asked by Hult International Business School in a study. No fewer than 1,600 employers participated in this survey, which revealed a rather surprising result.

Indeed, 37% of employers said they would prefer to use artificial intelligence rather than a young graduate from Generation Z (people born between 1997 and 2012). In total, 89% say they avoid hiring young graduates.

“They are cheaper”

Why this massive rejection of young workers ? Among the reasons given by these executives, 60% believe that the education received is too theoretical and that they do not have real-world experience. Similarly, 55% deplore that they do not collaborate well in teams.

Commenting on these figures to Newsweek, Kevin Thompson, financial expert and founder and CEO of 9i Capital Group, analyzes: “Training an AI to perform tasks is much easier and more cost-effective than training a human and paying them on the job. AI performs tasks exactly as programmed, for a fraction of the cost. Many employers see the value in leveraging AI for basic task management, particularly in support and entry-level roles.”.

Also interviewed by the American media, human resources consultant Bryan Driscoll, for his part, does not beat around the bush:

Of course, employers prefer to use AI over humans: it’s cheaper, it doesn’t require healthcare or basic human rights, and they don’t get paid vacation. This isn’t a Gen Z lacking skills, it’s employers trying to shirk their responsibilities.

To complete this study, we can refer to a survey conducted in 2024 by the cybersecurity company Kaspersky. 1,000 French people aged 18 to 40 responded to this survey. It shows that the temptation of AI does not only affect bosses, since 35% of respondents considered seeing decision-making entrusted to a machine rather than a human being.
