This new measure will simplify access to increasingly necessary care.

This is an announcement that has gone almost unnoticed. In the middle of a return to school marked by a salvo of bad news, particularly financial, a change will be introduced from 2025 on the medical level. This should delight a good number of French people and go, somewhat, against the current trend.

While prices at the doctor's or specialists' offices are about to soar, not all professionals will be completely inaccessible next year. One of them, which is used by around 250,000 French people each year, will be easier to consult and, above all, a little less expensive.

It is planned that from January 1, every French person will be able to visit a psychologist for free, once a month. A measure supported by the new government which aims to extend a system already in place and which has proven its worth: “My psychological support”. Since 2022, eight consultations per year with a psychologist have been offered to every French person, from the age of 3. However, these appointments had to be made on prescription from the general practitioner or midwife.

In 2025, it will be simpler. Everyone will be able to benefit from this free service without it being prescribed by the general practitioner or midwife. Be careful, however, it will still be necessary to go to an approved professional. by the State, the list of which can be found here.

This measure is part of the major plan implemented by Michel Barnier and his teams on mental health, declared a “great national cause”. It must be said that the recent figures on the psychological state of the population, particularly young people and students, are alarming to say the least. 40% of them would present symptoms of depression, according to a study by the University of Bordeaux, published by Marianne

However, to stop this spiral, you have to get out your checkbook. And with sessions that range from 50 to 100 euros per hour, at a rate of three or four per month, this quickly makes the protocol impossible to follow financially. This state initiative could help resolve part of the problem.
