Des parents d’un enfant de 6 ans ont été poursuivis par la justice australienne pour négligence, tromperie et pour avoir frauduleusement collecté plusieurs dizaines de milliers de dollars.

This case is shocking to say the least and has sparked a great deal of outrage. Parents living in Adelaide, Australia, have been prosecuted for pretending their 6-year-old child had cancer in order to collect money from a fundraiser, reports The Guardian.

“Heinous” acts

They are accused of criminal negligence and deception, but also of having fraudulently collected nearly 60,000 Australian dollars in donations, that is to say nearly 35,000 euros. More specifically, they staged their son, to make it appear that he had cancer.

“It is abhorrent that people would [allegedly] seek to profit from their own greed and personal selfishness from a disease as insidious as cancer, which affects so many families in our community,”, said John DeCandia, an Australian police officer.

It all began on November 26, when a report was made to the authorities. “It will be alleged that the accused shaved their six-year-old child's head and eyebrows and placed him in a wheelchair with bandages to imitate radiation treatment stereotaxic”, the police officer detailed.

“Our investigation has confirmed that the child is not seeking treatment. We believe that this unusual condition is causing significant and serious psychological harm to the child and his brother or sister.”

The couple is incarcerated. The father and mother, both aged 44, have been refused bail and are expected to appear in Australian court later this week.
