The events took place in Montpellier, in the Près d'Arènes district, on the night of Friday 6 to Saturday 7 December at 4am and then at 6:30am. An investigation is underway.

The residents of the ACM Eugène-Freyssinet residence, located on rue de l'Industrie, in the Près d'Arènes district of Montpellier, are exasperated. On the night of Friday 6 to Saturday 7 December, they were once again woken up by a wild raid.

“They first slashed the tires of several cars parked on the street and then started screaming at the top of their lungs. It was around 4 o'clock. I looked out the window and then I shut myself in because I 'I was afraid of reprisals”, confides a local resident.

But when she had fallen asleep again, they came back around 6 h.30 and this time used firearms. “They fired three shots. They broke the window of the front door of block 48. And a bullet pierced the shutter of an apartment on the first floor”, continues this Montpellier resident, in shock.

Fortunately, the room was empty. The owner of the said apartment, “traumatized since”, was sleeping in another room. No injuries were reported. Then the accused attacked a security guard who was returning from work. They blocked his path, pointed their gun at him and then broke his window.

They then ordered him to get out of the vehicle and fled with it, taking with them his house keys and his mobile phone, which they threw away as soon as they had passed through the entrance gate.

This is not the first time that we have seen this kind of scene of violence

An investigation team from the central police station was dispatched to the scene. “We can imagine anything but we have no certainty about anything”, underlines a source close to the investigation.

“Apparently, they were looking for a young person who lives in the residence but not in this block. They had, it seems, a disagreement”, adds the Montpellier resident. “This is not the first time we have seen this kind of violent scene. There are several drug dealing points in this residence. The last time, they showed up, hooded and armed, and caused a ruckus”.

When it is not about the “young people who come to make balloons (nitrous oxide, Editor's note) under our windows”. According to her, “because of the hookah bars located nearby”, rue de l'Industrie is unfortunately the stronghold of repeated incivility. “We're living in hell. It's become more possible. We're going to ask for video surveillance cameras.”

In the meantime, an investigation is underway to try to identify those involved.
