« This book has “Was written by a human” is the new label that will soon be available to the 15,000 members of the Authors Guild, the professional association representing novelists and authors of non-fiction published in the United States. The organization intends to offer a sort of ethical label to better protect creators.
Concretely, everything will immediately be based on declarations in the absence of a reliable AI detection tool. Quoted by Marketplace .org, Mary Rasenberger, CEO of the Authors Guild, points out: “We won't be able to verify right away whether what they say is true or not. However, they have to certify that it is human writing.”
The executive adds: “Generative AI is here to stay and it doesn't seem like all the books on which language models have been trained can be effectively purged. We urgently need to give control back to authors and their publishers, and licensing is the way to achieve this in the future.” .
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000This label should be used especially for e-books. We know that AI-generated productions are proliferating online. “I think it's more important in markets like the Kindle market, where you'll see a lot of AI-generated books. The plots are a little weird, there's some duplication,” Rasenberger continues.
In fact, it's not just authors who are turning to this type of labeling. Recently, the non-profit organization Credo 23, led by actress and director Justine Bateman, launched a certification for films and series that commit to not using AI in their production.
As you can see, while these technologies promise to be used extensively in the months and years to come, the human aspect of a creation will take on capital importance and could even become a real selling point.
And if that weren’t enough, the Author Guilds has already shown its teeth in the past. For example, the organization launched a class action lawsuit against OpenAI for copyright infringement last year.
These concerns are reminiscent of the commitment of authors and comic book artists against generative AI. In a previous article, we returned to this subject which is reshuffling the cards in this sector. To find out more, click here.
