This is a place in Normandy that you must see at least once in your life

Spread the love

Very close to Mont-Saint-Michel, it is a true little-known jewel of Normandy that you absolutely have to have seen in your life.

A land of history, gastronomy and traditions, Normandy shines beyond our borders. While Mont-Saint-Michel, the cliffs of Eatretat and the D-Day landing beaches are world-famous, this region in the northwest of France hides many other treasures. Let yourself be surprised by this unsuspected wonder, which is a privileged visit precisely at autumn.

A few kilometers off the coast of Normandy, north of the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and off the coast of Granville, there is a little paradise nestled in the heart of the English Channel. Made up of 365 islets spread over 40 km2 at low tide, and around fifty islets at high tide, the Chausey Islands archipelago is a true little-known gem of Normandy that will delight nature lovers.

We go there to observe an extremely rich fauna and flora, starting with its large colonies of seabirds such as oystercatchers, great black-backed gulls, great cormorants or shags. In total, more than 243 species of birds have been recorded there. In the fall, and especially this month of October, it is the period of migrations and many rare species are observed there such as the Warblers large eyebrows and Siberia or the dwarf flycatcher.

But the Chausey archipelago is not only an ornithological destination, its seabed is frequented by the bottlenose dolphin and the gray seal, to the delight of divers and marine biologists. Fans of shore fishing will not be left out: the islands offer kilometers of sandbanks where the famous Chausey lobster, the bouquet, shellfish such as cockles and clams are fished…

Rhythm&eacute by the highest tides in Europe, the archipelago offers visitors a spectacle in perpetual motion that will delight photography enthusiasts. Hikers will set off to discover the beauties of this bucolic archipelago along the coastal path: from the fishing village of Blainvillais to the Lambert Tower, passing by the Semaphore, the six fine white sand beaches, the fort and the lighthouse, the Renault castle, the Maison Marin Marie, not to mention the many rocks that seem to have been sculpted by the hand of man… An easy walk to foot, ideal for disconnecting, far from the crowds.

For a complete change of scenery in Normandy, you now know where to go. The archipelago is easily reached by boat from Granville, allow a short hour crossing with the stars of the Jolie France company. If the visit can last only one day, be careful, because according to the Chausiais saying: “He who comes to Chausey once comes back 300 times”!
