“This is the first time I've ever given a perfect score”: This game is acclaimed and gets the best ratings of the year

If 2024 seems to be a pivotal year for video games, one of them has just created a surprise by receiving exceptional ratings from the press.

The end of 2024 is quite busy regarding the marketing of new video games. Publishers are multiplying the releases of titles, highly anticipated by fans or some of which have received excellent feedback from the press and players. So many games that surprise by their quality and the know-how put in place by the development studios. However, one of these games released very recently stands out from the rest with extremely high scores from journalists specializing in video games. Acclaimed by critics, the title in question culminates a score of 94/100 on the Metacritic site which brings together all the biggest video game tests around the world. And yet it was not at all expected as a blockbuster in the gaming industry.

Thus, "Metaphor: ReFantazio" ranks between "Elden Ring" and "God of War : Ragnarok" among the best video games of all time. The journalist in charge of the test for the Eurogamer site notably awarded the title the perfect score of 5/5 and described the video game as "the quintessence of Japanese role-playing games". This is the first time that the journalist has given a perfect score to a video game.

For its part, the GameSpot site, mainly known in the US, also gives the game published by Atlus a perfect score of 10/10. This is the 29th game on the site to obtain this ultimate score since the site was created in 1996. “Metaphor: “ReFantazio” thus joins the magazine's Hall of Fame among other games highly rated by the site, such as Baldur's Gate 3, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 4. or "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time".

"Metaphor: ReFantazio" therefore seems to be unanimously accepted. from the specialized press. Journalists who have been able to test the game mainly highlight a mature story that addresses particularly dark and serious themes. The graphic direction is also highlighted with several fascinating locations to discover and explore. Finally, “Metaphor: ReFantazio” also seems to shine with its turn-based combat that leaves room for advanced strategy, but easy to take in hand.

How to explain such a success ? If "Metaphor: ReFantazio" was not a game particularly expected by the general public, fans of Japanese role-playing games were still eager to discover the title. It must be said that the developers are not unknown since the Atlus studio is already recognized for titles such as the “Persona” series, a true monument of the genre.
