To get to space today, the best way is still to board the ISS. For more than 20 years, this steel colossus has been orbiting the Earth, about 400 kilometers above our heads. For two decades, astronauts have been chaining guards, ensuring the proper functioning of their space home.
But as time goes by, the costs of maintaining the station are exploding. It is increasingly dilapidated, and the idea of leaving it to host a few years ago. Russia was the first major nation to announce that it was leaving the ship. Eventually, the United States, Europe and Canada decided to do the same in 2030, leaving the station abandoned.
This magnificent project of an international space station, symbol of the geopolitical agreement between all the nations of the world, will soon no longer exist, at least not in this form. Because since the announcement of the end of the ISS, many private companies have announced themselves as the ideal replacement solution.
Recently, it was the Californian firm Vast Space that unveiled the plans for its own space station, Haven-2. In the presentation video (visible below) the company presents a station built in orbit, block by block, like the ISS was 30 years ago.
Vast Space explains that these different modules would be much larger than those of the ISS and would allow astronauts to live and work in a much more comfortable way than today. Vast Space hopes to launch the first modules of its space station soon, with construction scheduled to end in 2028.

When we look in detail at the plans for Vast Space's private station, we realize that the company's engineers did not find inspiration far away. In fact, they built their station by taking all the strong points of the ISS.
As in the International Space Station, Haven-2 will have the right to a module dedicated to Earth observation, with a large glass window to observe our blue planet and take pictures of it. As on the ISS, Haven-2 will have the right to a robotic arm to perform various operations in the vacuum of space. On the ISS, this crucial instrument is named Canadarm 2 (because it is Canadian).
Before carrying out the Haven-2 mission, the large space station, the Vast Space company would like to test its protocols in real conditions with the Haven-1 mission. As early as next year, Vast Space would like to send a module into space to verify that it works perfectly.
This module alone will be able to accommodate 4 people. It will be the first private space station in human history and many billionaires could pay a fortune to take a trip aboard this new exotic destination.
