While tech giants like Meta are banking on features like live streaming or the ability to listen to music with their smart glasses, Emteq Labs has chosen a completely different path.
“Our glasses allow us to look inward rather than outward, boasts Charles Nduka, the company's founder and chief scientific officer. Wearers of these glasses will look to the future and see how subtle, nearly invisible factors can shape long-term health and well-being like never before.”
Concretely, what do the Sense glasses do? ? The secret to their operation lies in a series of sensors strategically placed on the frame. Some, located on the upper part, are responsible for monitoring the movements of the eyes and eyebrows. Others, positioned on the lower edge, detect the movements of the cheeks and jaw. This combination allows the Sense glasses to pick up on the subtle facial expressions that betray our emotions, providing a window into our emotional state in real time.
“From your face, we can glean all sorts of interesting insights into your emotional well-being, says Steen Strand, CEO of Emteq Labs and former head of the hardware division at Snap (Snapchat's parent company). This ability to decipher our emotions opens the way to many applications, whether in the field of mental health, personal development or even research in psychology.

The company has also equipped its Sense glasses with a downward-facing camera, capable of recording… what we eat. Users will be able to track their eating habits with unprecedented precision. This information can then be shared with healthcare professionals or nutrition coaches for personalized monitoring.
To obtain accurate data and ensure this monitoring, Emteq Labs has partnered with a company specializing in diet and weight loss, whose name has not yet been revealed. This collaboration suggests the considerable potential of these glasses in the field of weight management and metabolic health.
The announcement of these glasses, however, raises important questions about privacy and the ethics of using personal data. How will this sensitive information about our emotions and our diet be protected ? What guarantees does Emteq Labs offer its users in terms of data security ? The company is currently remaining very discreet about these sensitive subjects.
It is also not going into detail about the release date of its Sense glasses, contenting itself with a “upcoming launch” in its communication materials. However, it specifies that its partners will have a development kit available from December to adapt their applications. We can therefore expect a commercialization in 2025, at best.
