Contender for victory in the Vendée Globe, skipper Yoann Richomme informed the organizers on Friday January 10 morning of a sail failure, while he is in second place in the race a few days before the finish.

“At 7:29 a.m. (French time), Yoann Richomme, skipper of the Imoca Paprec Arkéa, contacted the Vendée Globe race management and his shore team to inform them of the broken hook on a headsail, causing the sail to fall into the water”, we learned in a press release.

“After 40 minutes of effort, Yoann confirmed that he had brought the torn sail back on board, which was now unusable”, the management of the race.

Expected between Tuesday and Wednesday at the finish

Richomme is the last sailor still in contact with the leader of the Vendée Globe Charlie Dalin (Macif), expected between Tuesday and Wednesday at Les Sables-d'Olonne.

On Friday at 11am, he was at the Carnaries, just 200 miles from Dalin and more than 630 miles north of the 3rd Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil). “Yoann is continuing his race with determination. The Imoca Paprec Arkéa is still expected on Tuesday” at the finish, his team declared.
