The 4th stage of the 2024 Tour de France, particularly anticipated with its first passage in the Alps including the Col du Galibier, could be disrupted by a fire that broke out in the town of Briançon, a crossing point for the Tour de France riders around 3:30 p.m.

According to information on site, potentially toxic smoke is being released in the area. The town's mayor has also called for wearing a mask by triggering the Municipal Security Plan. A difficult situation to manage for the Tour organizers. For the time being, no decision has been taken and the race should take place normally since the fire zone seems to be “far” from the race. The riders will pass about two kilometers from the scene of the disaster before heading towards the Lautaret and Galibier passes.
