The transfer of Melvyn Jaminet, from Perpignan to Stade Toulousain in 2022, is “the subject of formalized exchanges” between Toulouse and the National Rugby League”, the French champion club said on Wednesday, after revelations from the newspaper L'Équipe concerning potential embezzlement.

“The conditions under which this transfer took place are in fact the subject of formalized exchanges between Stade Toulousain and the National Rugby League, to which the club intends to reserve its responses and provide all its assistance, as required by the regulations, without however considering that its responsibility could be engaged”, writes the Haute-Garonne club in a press release.

In an article dated January 28, the newspaper L’Équipe revealed that in 2022, full-back Melvyn Jaminet had paid the clause allowing him to leave Usap for Toulouse himself, for an amount of 450,000 euros, taking out two loans to achieve this.

An amount that Stade Toulousain would then not have paid to the player, who left for Toulon in 2023, and is now in great financial difficulty.

Paying this sum to Jaminet would have forced the French champion club to exceed the ceiling authorized by the salary cap in force in rugby French.

Toulouse president Didier Lacroix responds via a press release

“Morally, they only have one thing to do, and that is to give Melvyn the money back. Their editing is not secret, that's over”, declared the president of RC Toulonnais to L'Equipe, fueling suspicions of fraud targeting Stade Toulousain.

Accusations rejected by the club chaired by Didier Lacroix: “This emotion, as legitimate as it is in view of Melvyn Jaminet's personal situation, has given rise to factually inaccurate statements, which Stade Toulousain does not intend to comment on for the time being”, we can read in the press release published on Wednesday.

The procedure is currently in the hands of Samuel Gauthier, “salary-cap manager” of the LNR.
