US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday that hard-line ICE chief Tom Homan will return to lead the agency responsible for border control and immigration enforcement (ICE).
“I am pleased to announce that former ICE Director and border control kingpin Tom Homan will be joining the Trump administration as the Border Czar,” the Republican billionaire wrote on his Truth Social network.
“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there’s no one better than him to police and control our borders,” Trump continued, saying the new ICE director would be in charge of “all removals of illegal aliens to their home countries.”
The 78-year-old president-elect has pledged to launch the largest deportation of illegal immigrants in U.S. history on his first day in office.
During his campaign, he repeatedly railed against illegal immigrants who, according to him, are “poisoning the blood” of his country, and promised to reinstate a policy of separating families at the border.
Thomas Homan had already led ICE during Donald Trump’s previous term (2017-2021).
During this first Trump presidency, nearly 4,000 migrant children were separated from their parents and placed in detention.
