On Thursday 6 and Friday 7 February, Sainte-Marie High School will host the regional selections for the Worldskills in the “personal care professions” category. Three students from the Bagnolais school will be taking part and will try to secure a qualifying place for the national competition.
This is an event known for being the largest careers competition in the world. The Worldskills, formerly known as the Youth and Skills Olympics, showcase professionals under the age of 23 in training or working. The regional selections for the 48th edition of this international competition are currently taking place throughout Occitanie.
The Sainte-Marie vocational high school in Bagnols-sur-Cèze will host the selections for the “personal assistance professions” category on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 February. And for the first time, the public will be able to attend the tests. Alicia, Emma and Eloïse, first-year ASSP (Accompaniment, Care and Personal Service) students at the Bagnols establishment, are among the ten candidates. The tests take place over two days in the form of a series of practical cases reflecting everyday professional situations.

They will be asked to play a specific situation”, explains Corinne Blanc, STMS (medical and social technical sciences) teacher and regional technical advisor for Worldskills. Candidates will be assessed on work organization, needs analysis, quality of care, communication and the safety of the person being supported.
To perform well on the big day, Alicia, Emma and Eloïse train in role-playing situations every Saturday morning, from 8:30 to 11:30, at the high school. Corinne Blanc and Nina Calcari, their two teachers, who volunteer on weekends, then play the role of guinea pig. “We set up scenarios that they might encounter on the day of the competition,” says Corinne Blanc. For example, the high school girls performed a footbath (foot cleaning) on their teachers. “They see us in a different context”, jokes the teacher.
“I heard about WorldSkills and it immediately made me want to do it because I have a competitive spirit, confides Eloïse.It's interesting because in training on Saturdays we learn techniques that we don't see in class yet.” For Alicia, a few days before the events, the stress is starting to mount. “I can't wait to experience the moment because we've been preparing since October.”
On Friday, at the end of the events, the jury will announce the top three in the regional selection without giving the order of the podium. The name of the winner will be revealed on February 12 during a ceremony in Carcassonne with all the professional categories gathered. The winners will represent Occitanie in Marseille from October 16 to 18 during the national final, qualifying for the international final in Shanghai.
During the 45th edition of Worldskills, Alicia Lacroix, a student at Sainte-Marie high school, won the gold medal in the national competition in the “personal care professions” category. I subscribe to read more
