Energy infrastructure, including a power station, was damaged in Ukraine by a major nighttime Russian attack which left seven employees injured, the authorities of this country announced Thursday, whose electricity network is struggling to resist targeted strikes by the Russians.
This is the seventh “massive” attack on Ukrainian power plants in the past three months, according to operator DTEK, forcing the imposition of frequent power cuts.
“The Russians attacked one of DTEK’s thermal power plants,” the company said in a statement on Thursday, adding that three of its employees had been injured by these strikes which caused “serious damage”.
The Ministry of Energy specified that “a certain number of energy infrastructures » had been attacked by the Russian army in four regions, including kyiv.
In total, “seven employees were injured”, one of whom is in serious condition, he continued, referring to “destroyed” equipment, without giving further details.
A technician was also injured when his team, which was working on a power line in the eastern region of Donetsk, found itself “under Russian fire,” added the same source.
The Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday claimed responsibility for a “grouped strike” against Ukrainian energy installations, assuring that “all” targets had been hit and that it was a “response” to the bombing of Russian infrastructure.

DTEK General Director Maxim Timchenko warned that Ukraine risked being “faced with a serious crisis this winter”, if its Western partners did not mobilize.
kyiv urges them to help it rebuild its network electricity, a project which requires significant investments, and to provide it with more anti-aircraft defense equipment to counter Russian bombings.
In Russia, several oil depots were targeted by Ukrainian drones during the night, as well as the town of Slavyansk-on-Kuban, in the Krasnodar region (southwest), where a woman lost her life , according to the regional governor, Veniamin Kondratiev.
A fire broke out in an oil refinery in the republic of Adygea (southwest) “in following a drone attack,” announced Governor Mourat Koumpilov.
A tank also caught fire early Thursday morning in a major oil refinery in Platonovka, in the Tambov region (center), “probably” because of a drone, acknowledged Governor Maxim Egorov.
The Ukrainian security services (SBU) are behind the attacks on the two refineries, a source within the SBU told AFP.
These facilities “processed and stored raw materials and finished products that were then used by the Russian military,” the source said, predicting more such attacks in the future.
Russia, meanwhile, continues to shell areas near the front line in southern and eastern Ukraine.
Two people were killed and three others wounded in the past 24 hours in the southern Kherson region, its governor Oleksandr Prokudin said on Thursday.
In the Kharkiv region, where Russia recently launched a major surprise ground offensive, governor Oleg Synegubov said a woman had died in a Russian strike.
Other shelling left four dead and four wounded, including a teenager, in the Donetsk region, where fighting is particularly intense, its governor Vadym Filashkin said.
Earlier, he had already reported two people killed, including one in the town of Toretsk, located very close to the front and subjected to heavy Russian fire.
The Ukrainian army noted on Thursday that Russian forces had “become more active” in the Toretsk sector and were trying to seize positions in two nearby villages.
