“Until the last moment we believed we could save our business”: Koffee & Kitchen in Montpellier bows out

Les travaux d’embellissement de la place des Martyrs-de-la-Résistance, à Montpellier, ont été le coup de grâce qui a mis à genoux le coffee-shop Koffee & Kitchen.

The second phase of the development work on Place des Martyrs-de-la-Résistance is still underway. But the managers of Koffee & Kitchen don’t care anymore. For them, the game is over. Between the noise of jackhammers, the difficulty of accessing the coffee shop and the impossibility of opening their terrace, the managers have seen their turnover collapse like snow in the sun until the point of no return at the end of 2024.

“We wanted to say thank you”

What they feared has finally happened. On January 5, they announced on their Facebook account the definitive closure of their establishment and wrote to the mayor of Montpellier: “We wanted to say thank you… after 11 years we have to close…

Before issuing an open letter on January 24, sent to the mayor, as well as to the president of the Commercial Court, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, the director of the Bank of France, and those of Société Générale and Urssaf. After the Yellow Vests, the Covid crisis, the work was the final blow, explains Laurent Bouger, one of the co-managers.

Selling today ? The business is for sale, but no buyer is interested with the work still in progress. Logical. Then to conclude his letter: “Until the last moment, we believed we could save our business and the jobs of our employees, but we are obliged to cease our activity, while hoping for action from the city of Montpellier allowing the acquisition of our lease rights or our business assets“, which is still awaited. Could this be the last bottle thrown into the sea? It looks like it in any case.

I subscribe to read the rest
