Up to 90% off: Lille, Rennes… here are the cities where parking prices adapt to users’ incomes

Spread the love

In several large French cities, residents' parking subscriptions are defined according to their income. A measure that is viewed favorably by some residents.

This is a measure present in many cities in France such as Lille, Rennes and now Nantes. The people of Nantes have the possibility of paying their city parking subscription, in a manner correlated with their income. Some therefore have the opportunity to see price reductions ranging from 30% to 90%. A full subscription which is up to 180 euros. Marianne, met by our colleagues from TF1, says: “We have two cars. We pay 18 euros for each car, per year.”

“Avoiding sucker cars”

This participatory system has existed for over a year in the city. Of the 20,000 registered subscribers, a quarter benefit from this solidarity rate. “That everyone pays, on the other hand, is rather good news. Afterwards, if we can actually grade according to each person's income, that's good” , according to one resident. “For those who don't have much means, why not” , explains another.

In addition to a participatory and positive policy, the aim of this measure is also to avoid “sucker cars” . “Make it easier for residents to park and encourage visitors to park outside, without penalizing them. We are rather in an incentive and positive policy, hence the solidarity pricing”, explains Denis Talledec, deputy for traffic and parking in the city of Nantes.
