How the results of the American elections are structured across the country? A quick look back at a few maps.

First, the results. Republican candidate Donald Trump won the presidential election with at least 294 electoral votes, compared to 223 for his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. The map opposite shows each of the states and their results, with the number of hexagons proportional to their number of electoral votes. Click on the states to see the results.

Although some battles were won in advance, such as Wyoming for Trump (72% of the vote) or Vermont for Harris (64% of the vote), others remain close, particularly in certain pivotal states – or key states. By hovering over the map opposite, we realize, among other things, that the gap in Wisconsin is only one percentage point between the two candidates. Only two points also separate them in neighboring Michigan.

Key states all Republican

Of the seven states designated as crucial to this presidential election, none of them have so far been won by Kamala Harris. The Republican candidate is on track to capture six states that voted for Joe Biden in 2020.

Abortion, a Constitutional Question ?

This year, 10 states also had the opportunity to take a stand on abortion, proposing a measure to make it a right enshrined in the Constitution (or, in some cases such as New York or Maryland, to strengthen the rights related to the termination of pregnancy within the state). The attempt failed in three of them: Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota.
