The sequel to "Moana, the Legend of the End of the World" was released in theaters on November 27, 2024.
We take the same and we start again! In February 2024, Disney studios created a surprise by announcing the release six months later at ; pain of a sequel of Vaiana, the most-watched animated film of all time on Disney+. Since Wednesday, November 27, 2024, young and old alike can discover the new adventures of the young woman with a Polynesian character, who embarks on a new journey to the far reaches of the seas of Oceania.
We know that the public will respond, since the first episode was a success and pre-sales have exploded in just 24 hours, detailed the Fandango site. But Vaiana 2, which was supposed to be a series before becoming a movie sequel, is it worth a look ? French critics are divided on the quality of the Disney feature film for the end-of-year holidays. There are obviously several critics who have been taken in by the qualities of Vaiana 2. And the main one remains the staging! For Le Journal du Dimanche, “the result commands admiration” and the cartoon is “visually “dazzling”. Same story from Le Parisien, who believes that graphically, “the film asserts itself even more sumptuous than the first”. Konbini hails “a more ambitious adventure” “with”its share of endearing characters and captivating songs”.”
Conversely, other media outlets such as Sud Ouest believe that the Disney heroine is making a “half-hearted comeback”. The main fault ? The script. According to the regional daily, the animated film “forgets to develop an effective plot”. The specialist magazine Premiere, for his part, recognizes that the heroine may not be endearing, but “the new story lacks substance and originality” to fully convince”. If La Croix considers that the film's message is “likeable”, above all, “it arouses a boredom as deep as the Pacific”, when Télérama denounces a “lazy sequel”. For Le Journal du Geek, which criticizes Vaiana 2 its half-hearted and too wise script which “tells nothing”, the “disappointment” and the “frustration” is great.
But given the anticipation and success of the first episode in streaming, we can expect that young and old will answer the call of the sea and that Vaiana 2 is one of the successes of the year despite these mixed reviews. The question now remains whether the animated film will be a real tidal wave at the French box office, or whether viewers will wait for the streaming release in a few years.
