Very high voltage line project between Gard and Bouches-du-Rhône: opposition continues unabated

During the community council meeting to be held this Monday, December 9 at 7 p.m., Juan Martinez, president of the CCBTA and mayor of Bellegarde, will propose to elected officials to vote for exceptional aid of €5,000 in favor of the Association Sauvegarde de la Terre d’Argence (ASTA), on the front line in the fight against the very high voltage line.

Elected officials and mobilized groups

This project for a future very high voltage line (400,000 volts) between Jonquières Saint-Vincent (30) and Fos-sur-Mer (13) has provoked strong reactions from both sides of the departments concerned. The Beaucaire Terre d’Argence community of communes (CCBTA) has thus strongly mobilized against this electrical connection, demonstrating its opposition on several occasions. For example, on February 26, on the proposal of President Juan Martinez, the community representatives voted unanimously against the THT Line project. The president of the CCBTA alerted the authorities, in particular the president of the Gard Departmental Council and the senators, who also spoke out against this project. On April 28 and June 5, CCBTA elected officials actively participated in public gatherings organized at Château Mourgues du Grès in Beaucaire.

The elected officials denounce “a lack of real consultation”

Finally, on September 27, Juan Martinez and the mayors of Terre d'Argence went to the Marseille prefecture to defend their territory against the prefect of the PACA region, Christophe Mirmande, also coordinator of this project. On this occasion, Juan Martinez denounced “a lack of real consultation, serious economic, tourist and agricultural impacts”. The elected officials and the collectives leaving the meeting in firm protest.
