Sunday January 19, by press release and after its mobilization in Vézénobres, Thursday, against the agri-voltaic projects of 13 hectares in total, the farmers' union, in the running for the professional elections, recalls that “it is crucial to avoid the destruction of agricultural land and wooded areas while many already artificialized surfaces can accommodate photovoltaic installations”.

“These projects concern on the one hand 3 hectares adjacent to the Maison Familiale et Rurale de Vézénobres, and on the other hand 10 hectares located between Ners and Vézénobres. In total, 200 almond trees and several hectares of 25-year-old pine forests are threatened with destruction. The report from the Chamber of Agriculture attached to the file does not in any way highlight an improvement due to the project, but highlights the current interesting pastoral potential of the plots concerned.
Furthermore, the first independent studies demonstrate that agrivoltaics does not improve the productivity of the plots, does not provide any benefit in terms of animal welfare (the sheep preferring natural shade to that of the panels), and after several years, we begin to observe an accelerated degradation of the meadows on the impacted plots.
Finally, once the panels are installed, it is impossible to adapt the management of the plot to climate change, because its management is fixed for several decades.

A strong citizen mobilization marked the day of actions on January 16, 2025, testifying to the concern of the Vézénobriens and residents of neighboring municipalities in the face of the flagrant lack of consultation on the part of elected officials who shirk responsibility by claiming that “it is the responsibility of the State.”
The petition, which has already collected a hundred signatures, is still in circulation. It can be signed until the end of February in Vézénobres. At the same time, support committees will flourish in the village to inform citizens about the importance of thoughtful zoning for photovoltaic panels. It is crucial to avoid the destruction of agricultural land and wooded areas, capable of capturing carbon, at a time when the French State is financing the planting of trees, while many already artificialized surfaces can accommodate photovoltaic installations.

Finally, although the file is in the hands of the Prefecture, it is important that the decision-making process guarantees effective consultation with all stakeholders, especially for projects of this scale. The real beneficiary of this project will be financial speculation but in no case the ecological transition or peasant agriculture.”
